Dear Mr Paul Holt

I would like to know how to check and insure the correct alignement of 7 km long pipe conveyor. Also i would like to Know how to lay the steel cord belt through out the length as our conveyor galleries are six roll set in forward and 3 roll set in return of belt.there in no as such space to pull the belt. but our supplier M/S Macmet india Ltd is being order for laying the belt to m/s Thejo Engg ,basically this party is doing lots of work of valcanizing and laying work. All Engg is being done by Bridgestone TPE Japan.

Dear Rajesh Verma

Regarding your questions. I believe Macmet and Bridgestone should know this but to comment.

Regarding the alignment of a long pipe conveyor this takes some skill and should be done by experienced persons. The belt can be tracked to maintain a stable position of the joint overlap when both loaded and empty.

Sometimes with long pipe conveyors it can be difficult to maintain a top position when empty but as long as it is stable this is not a problem.

Regarding pulling on of the belt, a good installation company should be able to do this. If there is space the ideal way is to feed on from the tail end then making each splice joint at the tail end where it is flat after pulling on each length/roll of belt. If there is not space a special pulling on point may have to be created.

I have previously had contact with mssrs Macmet and if they require I can comment further.

Dear Rajesh

Long distance pipe conveyor belt pulling should be well panned

Belt pulling and vulcanizing can be planned from convenient location like head , tail end or take up location Based on your layout requirement .

Ideal way is to feed on from the any of the above position ensuring following

1.0There should be Space for vulcanizing Just before belt feeding point

2.0If possible Make vulcanizing space temporarily covered to reduce dust nuisance while vulcanizing

3.0Select location from where you can feed belt in both the directions ( carrying and return side ) independently. This will reduce your pulling equipment capacity

For Pulling of the belt you may use wire rope and electric winch of suitable capacity . Pulling in both the directions can be planned in such a way that last joint to be done where conveyor is in open position
