Short of sliding them by hand over a bag slitter mounted on a perforated table of some sort I can not think of anything else that would work-did you have a problem with the formulation or quality of materials for the heat source?

Thank you for your reply. There are 1800 bags to be opened per hour. Therefore, we need a machine such as a punching press or a two-shaft shredder. The bag opener should cut the bag into a few pieces only, enough pieces to allow a complete emptying of the bag, but not too many and consequently small pieces, which in the following step would pass the screen and contaminate the granular material.

The handwarmers are returned from distribution channels, mainly because they reached lifetime. Their granular content, however, is still fully active and could be reused, i.e. added in a small quantity to fresh material.

The type of automtic bagging machine shown in the link below may be an option:

http://www.wamgroup.com/index.asp?in...ch=63&idLang=1

Crudely, you throw the bag in, the rotating drum screen / rotating agitator breaks the bag up, the powder falls through the screen and the bits of bag carry on over the screen to a separate outlet.

It is designed for 25 kg type bags but I would guess that a device like this should work reasonably well with smaller bags as well?

Debagging Handwarmer Bags

Dear RPD and Itsik mann, thank you for your replies. You are absolutely right. There are several suppliers of bag opening machines for comparatively big bags, such as cement, lime and pigment bags as well as garbage bags in recycling plants. What we need, however, is a machine for opening and emptying comparatively small bags (weight 65 g, size 170 x 120 x 5 mm). If someone could provide useful information on a supplier of such a machine for small bags we would be grateful to receive this information.
