In building material ( like dry mortar etc. ) production, batch processiong is normal. Therefore, single shaft (ploughshare) batch mixer and twin shaft ( forberg type ) batch mixer could be used in the application. Could somebody tell the diffenence between the two types of mixers themselves and also

(1) advantage and disadvantage

(2) mixing efficiency to achieve homogenuous mixture

(3) charge and discharge

(4) duralibity

(5) maintenance

(6) cost

in the application?

Thanks

Greetings for m the soggy eastern wilderness @114o feet above mean sea level.

It all depends on what you are mixing.

Cement mortar is as dumb as the rocks it is made of.

You need water, mason sand, and neat cement to make it. It has to be wet enough to spread it with a trowel but not too wet where it can not be spread like butter on bread.

Horizontal plow share mixers allow for proper mixing of the mortar mixture by adding material as it is operating and allowing one to check its consistancy by sight during mixing.

a cement mixer can be used both for bag cement mixes or by adding individual ingredients one at a time to the mixer in desired proportions then mixing same together to make the cement product whether it is sand mix or stone mix.

One also decides whether they want a neat cement pour which contains a lot of water and mixes well to fill a void such as footing trench for a foundation or a little drier for a formed foundation.

loading mixing and uloading for mortar or making cenent with a mortar mixer or cement mixer is very basic and simple to do.

Add water add ingredients as the mixer is running wait until you have the desired consistency-no need to upset the mason who is waiting for the cement or mortar.

The mixers used today for small batches of cement, mortar or plaster are simple and easy to maintain and not very expensive with small gasoline or diesel engines and if run electrically can be run indoors.

I serious doubt one would want to use a "Forberg" mixer for cement or mortar as it would be a very expensive item to make cement or mortar or even plaster mud for that matter as precise mixing is not needed due to the ability to visually inspect the mix as it is being churned.

The other factor is cost and it is less costly to use conventional mixers and they do a very good job- you still need to know how to make the mixes no matter what to make them properly.
