Silo for Red Iron Oxide Storage

I have been asked to design improvements in handling 3500 tpy of red iron oxide powder (RIO). Currently this material is received, stored and discharged from 2000 lbm FIBCs. Once in a while there is a split bag or a corner strap breaks and then what a mess. This plant is red everywhere as if it had been painted.

I thought a silo with air assisted discharge (cement type) to an airslide conveyor feeding to the mixing point would be a significant improvement. Also use an air lift feeding system to fill the silo from bulk trucks.

This RIO is 100% minus 60 micron and 30% minus 1 micron.

Is there a plant somewhere that is handling this or a similar product by the means discribed? Does anyone have suggestions for handling this material other than FIBC and paper sacks? Maybe someone in the magnetic media business handles this material in these or larger annual quantities. How do they do this?

Any help really appreicated.

At a first glance....Your are handling ±10 tpd or about 2 tph. Invstment in silos & blowers is not a viable option unless the product is high value. Is it pricey stuff?

Consider moving the IBC's on pallets so your clowns don't get the chance to forget to use all the loops until the very last lift. Then they won't have so much area to clean.

If your workforce is having difficulties with the IBC's they will likely forget a valve somewhere or not tighten the delivery hose properly & you will just blow the dust further afield.

Also remember that if the workforce does not make allowance for the IBC material now they are just as unlikely to make allowance for any future filter CLOTH.

Meanwhile let us know how the bags are stored & discharged.
