Posted in: , on 10. Jun. 2006 - 00:21

Dear sir.

We have a 5000 sq meters yard to stock (Pb) lead concentrate in bulk. we have some problems with the polutions because the wind leave product to our neigbour.

The environment agency is pushing us to solve the problem.

The question is. there are some product to spay on it (diluted in water may be) in order to keep it in the place then the strong wind can not leave the dust?

There are some comapany who produce a product like this??

Any help is welcomed.

Dust Suppression

As I understand it you have a stockpile area about 50 m X 100 m with stockpiles maybe 5 m or more high. Your dust fines are blowing 300 to 400 m away annoying your neighbours.

This is a dust suppression problem.

The aim is to quickly form a hard crust on the surface of the stockpile. The key here is having an good spray system to do the job, without leaving dry patches, and without washing gulleys into the bottom of the pile. To reach the top of the piles from the perimeter you need long range irrigation sprays - often called water cannon. The key is to deliver a good droplet size. Chemical additives are a nice to have if you have a good spray system, and add running cost, but they are not magic.

You would also need sprays on your stackers at the top.

Try talking to your spray people. They will know all about surface acting chemicals, called "surfactants".

Any self-respecting environmental agency should also have instructed you to take appropriate measures to collect, contain & treat the contaminated run off from the pile as well as correct the long term seepage down to the water table.

From the hindsight of the 1960's it is amazing that planning permission was granted.
