It all depends on your needs for moving material from A to B for one thing, so you really can not ask a question like that with out all the details.

The cross section of a conveyor belt in the troughing idlers section is the measurement used to calculate volume.

Length times width times height for inverted trapeziod etc., for calculating volume to the level of the belt edges.

Belt width depends upon lump size, capacity, speed that can be used, material repose angle, material surcharge angle, conveyor inclination, troughing angle that can be used, etc. Refer relevant literature to know about such matter.
