We have requirement of storing and conveying powdered limestone. The bunker storage capacity is 975 T and sieve analysis of powdered limestone is approx as under:

0.2 – 0.1 mm = 20%0.2 – 0.16 mm = 40%0.16 – 0.04 = 36%< 0.04 = 4%

We are stuck with following:

1. Type and construction of storage bunker - RCC/Steel silo with mechanical vibrators or fluidisation.

2. IS fluidisation is recommneded for such material

3. Recommended conveying velocity and phase

Information regarding above is required.

Powdered Limestone Storage

Dear Girish,

Please find below some input--

1. Type and construction of storage bunker -For the given capacity you can go for steel ,if you are going for RCC then in that case time required in the contruction of the same is more as compare with steel silo.

2.IS fluidisation is recommneded for such material-- Yes,you give fluidisation system at the bottom for discharge of the material taking care of right design/layout of fluidising pads inside the hopper and right pressure enabling smooth flow for the material, please also install pnu. pads around the bottom part of the hopper

3. Recommended conveying velocity and phase--Conveying velocity/capacity can be design to suit the requirement of end equipment, you can also provide flow control valve to check/regulate the flow.

We can design the entire system for you.

Dear Mr girish

The particle size analysis, you give is somewhat unclear.

20% if the particles lies between 200 to 100 micron

and

40% if the particles lies between 200 to 160 micron

To be sure, that we are referring to the same material,

I take it, that the limestone you mention is as follows :

Product properties Limestone

==============================

Material CaCO3

particle size 140 micron

particle density 2670 kg/m^3

suspension velocity 2.8 m/sec

product frict.fact. cwpfact 14.62614 ^-12

wall frict.fact. muwb .5 --

pressuredrop mat. at intake 750 mmWC

bulk density product 640 kg/m^3

v-wall/v-susp. ratio 1.5 --

filter resistance factor 1500000 --

This material is f.i. used for desulphurization of exhaust gases of coal fired power plants.

Your questions :

1)Type of storage bunker.

Steel silo or RCC silo will do both.

It is just a matter of investment and time requirements

(building time, life time) as well as maintenance.

(Steel needs to be painted from time to time)

2)fluidization

To control the flow properties of the CaCo3, fluidization is the first option to consider.

Whether this has to be done by airslides, fluidization pads or air blast-injections, or a combination of these, is something to discuss with an expert.

Consulting other companies, who has such an installation already, and

visiting existing installations is advised.

3)The recommended air velocity cannot be stated exactly, (particle size distribution is unclear) , but based on a suspension velocity of approx. 3 m*sec, the air velocity at 1 bar(abs) should be between 18 – 20 m/sec.

Whether this is dens phase or dilute phase, it is pneumatic conveying.

Note :The above answers are just a (very) few of the things you have to decide in such a project.

f.i. the pneumatic conveying installation has a feeder side and a receiving side.

(silo extraction, pipeline feeding, blowtanks, valves, diverters, material/air separator, filters, compressors, etc.)

And all this has to be designed and calculated too.

Orientate yourself with manufacturers.

Fluidization Of The Material Is Easier Than Ever

Dear Girish,

Thanks for your informing us about your requirement in fluidization of the material. CaCO3 and limestone.

We are manufacturing Air Cannon Systems and we furnished more than 7000 systems in the World of 13 counties together with Turkey. These systems have been used in different industries such as cement factories, Gypsium Manufacturers, CaCO3 processing plants. We received good results from our applications. We can give the contact information of the users upon your request. The only requirement will be the dimensions of the silo, since you have already given the technical specifications of the material. The system pays back itself in very short time.

Please contact us, and we can supply you the necessary information together with offer.

Thanks and Best Regards,
