New Belt Watch System:

Condition Monitoring of Steel Cord Conveyor Belts

The aim: To extend the safe working life of the belt by quickly and easily interrogating it at a more affordable price, more frequently.

Advantages:

- No downtime / production loss.

- Immediate response to scan request.

- More frequent scans possible.

- Improved belt repair and replacement management.

Principle of operation and description.

The operating principle is based on electromagnetism:

All steel cords are magnetised, and any damage, (broken cords or rust) is detected by sensing changes in magnetism.

The damage, extent and location; both longitudinally and horizontally, are recorded using a laptop computer. The data is then processed / analysed and printed out in a user-friendly manner to enable the operator to prioritise and locate damage in the full belt length.

Example of installation:

Equipment is installed permanently under the return belt, on either side of a flat idler.

Laptop computer connected to sensor for data collection as and when required – weekly, monthly, yearly or after suspected belt damage event.

Analysis of data done by Conveyor Watch, or data collected by client and sent via web, or training given to client for own analysis.

Alternatively, the scans can be done remotely by Conveyor Watch via GPRS on site computer system.
