Calculation the volume of the air tank

hi

ALL

i have a problem which has puzzled me for long time. how to calculate the volume of the air tank with the following.

compressor : 8bar(absolute pressure)

volume of solids storge tank: 1.5m^3

pressure of air tank:4.5bar

pressure of solids storage tank:1bar

the pipe diameter between air tank and solids storage tank is 14.4mm as the same as that between compressor and air tank

it takes 20 sec. to charge to air tank meanwhile the valve on the pipe connecting air tank and solids tank is open,

then open all the valves to clear the main conveying pipeline which has 125mm diameter,

the time of this clearing should last 50sec.

what size of the air tank's volume should be choosed?

regards

Ok, why are you asking when it seems to me that you have already answered your own question regarding the air volume needed-

If the air tank is adequate for the job at hand just use that cubic volume related to the PSI needed at a safe working pressure <125 psi, to move the material at the desired speed or consistancy-dense phase or dilute phase of conveying.

It is all relative to the pressure you want to use and the recovery air if needed.

thanks for your reply!

perhaps what i wrote didn't make you clear or puzzled you!

the volume of solids storage tank is known but the volume of the air tank£¨gas storage£© is't known which is just i want to calculate

1¡¢the solids storge tank is empty during the total 70sec,and it's outlet is closed during first 20sec.

2¡¢20sec later ,all the valve is open to clear main conveying pipeline (D=125mm) .the time of this process should as long as 50sec at least.

thanks for your time

Ok know I know what to tell you.

First determine the hughest point in the tank where you have a pipe plug or cap-usually any air compressed air vessel made these days has numerous

ports for air delivery etc.

drain any air pressure off the tank in question:

Install a ball valve at the highest point in the tank that is accessable-preferably at the crown of the tank if it is vertical or at the side of the tank if it is horizontal.

You have to do what I tell you to do next to avoid an injury from compressed air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.fill your tank with product as you normally would.

2. Shut off the air supply to the tank.

3. let the material rest for a while to allow it to settle- an hour or so.

4. SLowly and I mean very slowly!!!!, open the valve to release the compressed air from the vessel- only open the valve enough to barely hear the air escaping from the storage vessel.

5. When you can no longer hear the air escaping

the`vessel it should be empty of compressed air pressure, carefully open the valve a little at a time untill it is fully open.

6. Take a wooden stick and mark it for what ever measurements you need- it should be marked for the entire length and also in crements of length for the tank and lower it into the tank to determine the height of the product in the tank.

7. Subtract this amount from the tank volume and you will have your answer.

8. Use the standard volume calculations for a cylinder to do the above by subtracting the volume found from the total volume.

I am sure other board members will add other relevant facts as well.
