Innovative Ultra fine grinding technology leads to breakthrough in binder production.

Cyclotec, a St. Petersburg, Russia engineering firm developed a cost effective ultra fine

grinding technology which will lead to breakthrough in binder production.

Cyclotec’s semi industrial scale prototype turns industrial waste (ash, slag, mine tailings)

to superior binder just by grinding it to less then 5 micron size.

(no additional treatment needed).

The phenomenon happens due to the high energy intensity in the mill’s drums

(More then 2000 kW/m3),which leads to intense mechanical activation.

Cyclotec’s ultra fine grinding technology will lead to production of advanced construction materials from industrial waste (ash, slag, etc.) with the following superior properties:

1. Fast-setting, high-strength binders with strength of:

45-53 MPa —within 24 h;

65-75 Mpa— within 72 h;

120-150 MPa — within 28 days.

The time of the beginning of setting can be adjusted within the range of 20 min to 6 h.

Cold resistance —up to F1000 (thaw freeze cycles)

Water-tightness — up to W30 (atmospheres)

Capable of: acquiring strength at sub zero temperatures.

2. Heat-resistant binders capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1600°?.

3. Shrinkage-free, acid-resistant binders. (aggressive environment resistance)

4. Plugging binding mixes — with the beginning of setting within 20-60 seconds, with strength acquired within 1 - 2 min.

5. Production of foam concrete with a volumetric weight of up to 200-300 kg/m3 and a strength up to 10 MPa.

6. Production of silicate bricks out of mining waste.

7. Brown coals ash activation to use as construction material.

8. Ash ceramics.

9. Cements- to upgrade quality by mechnical activation (significant energy saving)

10. Cement production out of slag without energy consuming process-just by mechanical activation- ability to substitute cement on a pound to pound basis

11. Slag portland cement.

12. Slag concrete.

13. Ceramic tiles.

14. Artificial stone,marble,granite.

15. Heavy Concrete

16. Loose ballast material

Ultra fine grinded slag-alkaline binders are significantly more resilient then cements and differ in better dynamics of gaining durability.

Concerning volumetric weight, durability, cold resistance slag-alkaline binders have similar properties to granite.

Technology- description & advantages

Cyclotec achieved the mechanical solution for the old principle of planetary milling [U.S patent dated 1886!!, but mechanically not achieved in practice, although multitude of trials].

Planetary Centrifugal mill technology enables to have two additional parameters to control that will enable broader control of the grinding process:

Centrifugal speed (no critical speed limitation!),

Ratio of angular speeds,

1.Compact footprint

2.Significant energy saving

3 Unmatched reduction ratio

4. Extended run time.(high speed, high efficiency planetary gear with planned life span)

5.Ability to operate under superior centrifugal loads (30-100 g acceleration factor) - no critical speed limitation.

6.Simplicity of continuous feed and discharge of the raw & grinded materials.

7.Simplicity of removal of the excessive heat and dust.

8.No vibration – no need for foundation.

9.Simplicity of the design – we practically have four ball mills united together- meaning simple production adaptation.

10.Maintenance – easy & simple – complete disassembly & assembly takes six hours by one person.(liners change would require less time).

11.Grinding Media charge ---- effortless and could be done without stopping the grinding process.

12.Autogenious Grinding – great potential for the realization of the technology of AG with various materials --- energy savings, eliminating contamination.

13.Grinding process—(Cyclotec already provides milling services to local companies).

14. Versatility- PCM mill could be operated either in dry or wet grinding process.

15.Intense Mechanical activation.

16. Practically Immediate stabilization of the grinding process

17.The design could be applied either in continuous or batch mode
