SIde Arm charger can work on curved path.In case you are using 10 t capacity standard side arm charger it can pull 20 wagons of 83 t gross weight each on straight path.In case path is curved no of wagons will be reduced as friction will increase.
you have to give curve details and gross weight of each wagon so that side arm charger capacity can be decided based on your requirement.

I understand the capibilities of a 10T standard side arm charger.Now lets say I have 29 wagons having a gross weight of 83T each standing on straight and curve combination of tracks, on what basis the selection of the side arm charger is to be done? What are the underlying calculations that needs to be done? Diagram attached for your reference.

Dear Mr. Abhijeet,
The draw bar pull for your application will be 29x83x 8/1000 = 19.256 ton. So you have to go for Side arm charger having 25 ton draw bar pull. But I do not know about how it works in a curve path.

An early predecessor of mine, as Senior Mechanical Engineer with the Butterley Company (est 1782), invented the Jessop Flange for incorporation into mine waggon wheels. It works quite well on both straight & curved tracks & is used on rolling stock worldwide. Since the patent is evidently no longer in force the calculation you require is readily available after more information. Just ask me or Butterley's. ■

Side arm charger in curved path
Dear All,
I want to use Side Arm charger for positioning the wagons in tippler table. I donot have straight path to haul the wagons by side arm charger. Is it possible to haul 22-wagons in a curve path by side arm charger? Is there any such installation?
