SCREENING – AN EVER-GROWING NECESSITY WITHIN WASTE MANAGEMENT

ROTEX AT RECYCLING & WASTE MANAGEMENT IN BIRMINGHAM (13-15 September 2005)

As legislation deadlines draw ever nearer the need for recycling becomes more important in the UK. Recycling means segregation & segregation means screening.

Once the recycling and waste-handling boom started, the applications offered ROTEX the opportunities to adapt the equipment with little effort. Vibratory feeders whether of a fixed or variable speed were complimented by vibratory conveyors, all capable of handling large, volumetric and where necessary heavy products. In addition to the ability to feed and convey products, the ROTEX range of Direct Drive and gyratory motion screeners give the company a series of machines that can separate dry product by size, either simplistically or very accurately. In addition special screen decks have been developed with certain clients to enable specific products to be handled that would normally be extremely difficult to screen.

Typical industries where success has been gained include rubber, glass, municipal waste, plastic, ferrous and non-ferrous.

Rubber has been a strong success story for ROTEX and will continue to grow as the landfill costs become prohibitive for many companies.

Glass seems to be an ideal screening product as the larger industries and general recycling companies specialise in recovering glass properties for new uses. Sandblasting is becoming more difficult to justify due to the silica content and legislation regarding the percentage allowable in local water treatment systems. As such glass has become a new acceptable product. Aggregates, building blocks, decorative uses, cement, paint are all potential uses and the success of the Rotex systems in glass recycling are offering new opportunities.

Municipal waste & Biomass production both allow new areas for Rotex screening either in waste segregation or pellet production.

Plastic windows have a shelf life and therefore have to be replaced. The recycling of either production extrusions or old frames via grinding and screening is now a major factor in new window production. ROTEX success is already proven and will hopefully grow as the needs increase.

As other materials become recyclable the need for screening will always be required and as such ROTEX will find a new market into which we can offer our expertise.
