New ceramic lagging keep the aggregates flowing for NCC in Denmark

Newly introduced ceramics pulley lagging from Metso Minerals eliminates slippage problems on quayside discharge conveyor in Denmark.

Scandinavian contractor NCC has eliminated slippage problems at its Århus seaport facility in Denmark on a 30 m long aggregates discharge conveyor with the installation of newly introduced Trellex ceramic pulley lagging from Metso Minerals.

The conveyor, installed on the ports quayside, was experiencing frequent slippage and stoppages, particularly during rainfall and by salt carried during heavy winds.

Slippage problems and the resulting shutdowns were resolved when the NCC covered the 400 m diameter conveyor drive pulley with the new ceramic lagging.

Featuring 19 mm high grade alumina ceramic round tiles moulded into Trellex T60 wear resistant rubber backing bonded onto the drum surface, the new lagging was introduced for use in difficult wet and muddy working conditions.

The high strength ceramic inserts ensure extremely high wear resistance.

The Trellex Trellply conveyor belt rises at an angle of 7º to a height of 30 m to discharge aggregate onto a transfer conveyor at a speed of 1.6 m/sec.

Typical loadings are 0-200 mm aggregates at a capacity of 300 t/h.

Following the success of installing the ceramic pulley lagging, even under the worst conditions involving sea water, the NCC has installed the lagging on a number of other key conveyors at the plant.
