Dear All

We are exporting our sulphur product by conveyor belt with 900 MT/hr design. During the loading operation we generate alott of dust. We are looking for a process which can eliminate the dust during the loading operation. We hear about one supression system which is applies fine spray of wateror water mixed with chemicales. Is this system suffient or not.

Sulphur Dust Control.

What are you loading? Ship, truck, rail car? More information please.

I would not use water to suppress sulphur dust. A dust collection system is what you need. A baghouse is the most efficient collector but a wet scrubber would be suitable if you can recycle the slurry easily.

The use of a "wet dust supression" is very hard to imagine in your application: As I understand it, sulphur is hydra-phobic and the addition of water produces amonnia sulfate associated with the the the smell of "rotten eggs". You did not give a particle size of the dust but will assume it to be -200 mesh (-74 micron) and adding water into a pariculate being stagmatic in crystaline structure which interlocks and mats like "Velcro" coupled with the addition of water, In my opinion become a build-up, caking and material handling night mare.

I agree, with Michael in bab house/wet scrubber design however, I'd review the requirements and use a high efficiency multi clone cyclone ahead of the baghouse and YOU MUST blanket at this point for reducing the potential of a sulphur dust explosion. .

Dear Mr Abdulla Al Marri,

I believe you should opt for a dry dust collection system for eliminating the dust at your conveyor transfer point.

You will get two advantages over a wet system

1) Recovery of product - No emissions

2) No issues of effluent generation

we can offer you such a system with a bag house and a ID fan.

I believe water and sulphur will give you So2 (Cough cough, choke choke) very bad. I am working in processing of plastics including size reduction and we use the baghouse and fan method to capture as small as ~ 100 micron dust particles. The baghouse filters are replaced every two years. The system has been fail-safe but you must install blow out panels in the presence of flamable materials.

Sulphur Just Add Water

Erstellt am 14. Dec. 2005 - 06:25

According to this web link http://www.hummelcroton.com/msds/sm.html

Sulphur is not water soluble. So due to the explosive nature of the dust, collecting it in a dry state would not be the best solution (boom). I would also not recommend spraying it down with water or chemicals. Watered down dust particles will dry out and can become a problem again. Chemicals can contaminate the existing product.

I recommend a wet based scrubber that will neutralize the explosive nature and isolate the dust problem. The Air Force Inc. wet scrubber systems are designed for just this purpose. Not only do they minimize the amount of water required, but they also quickly immerse the dust in the water and the large CFM ensure that the dust will not collect in the duct system should there be a power failure during the process.

Also mentioned is that Sulphur (S) added with Water (H2O) will create ammonium sulphate (NH4)2SO4 – Sorry, not possible.

There is also a claim that it will become a caked up night mare. This is also incorrect as the sulphur will not bind with itself and won’t “dissolve” into the water, storage, removal and reclamation is possible with the correct processing.

Please contact me if you have any questions!

Dust Suppression

Dear Sir,

We have pleasure to inform you that we are manufacturing speciality chemicals for various industrial applications. We have Dust Suppression products range 'DUSTRON' for the DUST SUPPRESSION in mining operation for haulage road in open cast mines and for the bulk material handling systems.

We have a Memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Central Mining Research Institute (CMRI) Dhanbad, India which is a part of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research Govt. of India. CMRI is the world recognised Institute for the research in the field of mining operation.

The following products are approved and accepted by the Indian Mining Industries since last 10 years for better environmental and mining conditions.

1. DUSTRON PC Compound: For the open cast mines haul road where the dust emission is because of HEAVY EARTH MOVERS of high capacity trucks Dozzer, Tippler etc. DUSTRON PC is used for various class of mines in India for dust suppression in the mines as under.

(1) Iron Ore Mines

(2) Zinc Mines

(3) Lime Stone Mines

(4) Copper/Chromite Mines

2.DUSTRON PC COAL : For the open cast mines haul road of collieries, railway sidings and coal jetty's road of the ports.

3.DUSTRON PC LIGNITE : For the haulage roads of lignite open cast mines.

4.DUSTRON XT : This product is used for the dust suppression of bulk material handling system where at the transfer point crusher house, dumper platform dust emission is heavy, so along with water spray DUSTRON XT is used to control dust emission.

5.DUSTRON XT COAL : For bulk material handling system of conveyors, dumper platform, wagon tipplers of open cast/ under ground mines, Thermal power plants and coal jetty on the port trust.

All the above products are used in Indian mining industries to control dust for better environment & working conditions which produce no. of advantages.

We hope that you might be consuming some product for similar application. "Using DUSTRON RANGE OF PRODUCT SAVINGS IN WATER is 40%" with other benefits.

If you find any interest we shall send you the detail literature for your reference along with quotation.

We request you to send us your e-mail address to contact you on net.

Dear Sir,

This refers to your mail regarding sulphur dust at the time of loading and unloading.

Please find out from your customer that is there any problem with the sulphur if the water is sprayed ath the time of sulphur operation, if water can used then whether they have any system of spraying water ? if yes we have Dustron XT for the control of dust . if they don't have system then we have to offer them system with chemical.

If water is not used then we can offer them de-dusting agent to be mixed with sulphur which co ogulate the particles and no dust will be result.

Kindly send enough information to offer the product.

If interested please feel free to contact me via email for more information. Thanking you in advance and hoping to hear from you soon.

It is never too late (Arabia et al) to ask the people at Berri Gas Plant (Al Jubail) what they do about dust in their KFIP loading operation.

There is a new plant extension ready to go and they should be bang up to date.

I find it fascinating reading all these solutions. We just successfully eliminated a serious dust problem in a facilty handling at times, micro fine alumina, by basically turning down the baghouse to a point it was barely operating and focussing on basic engineering i.e. controlling the material flow at the transfer point and along the belt. Result spectacular. Bag houses definitely increase the amount of dust generated and once you have collected it you have to do something with it. The key to dust control is minimising air flow, where it occurs through sealing and baffles reduce both the air volume and its energy levels such that the dust settles naturally. Absolutley minimal maintenance, very low cost, no side effects.

Cheers
