Screen design

Hello everyone,

i'm new to this forum and I would like some advice for the design of a vibrating screen. It is for a RnD project at university, I need to now what type of screen cloth I need for my screen.

I will be screening a mix of sand and 1/2" decorative rock. It will be screening approx. 9 cubic foot per minute and the screen size is 38" x 24" with an angle of 15 degrees.

Thanks

Ok, so you have told us it is a vibrating screen, - but what you are describing is a method that is an elliptical orbit screening method.

Are you using a screening plant design that is used for desilting drilling mud? the reason I ask is that it sounds like it is exactly like a desilting screen set up.

You are screening material that will weigh almost a ton per minute or more depending if water is added as well. Is there clay in the material?, this will also effect the screening efficiency.

If so, you need a heavy screen cloth-besides the fact that you want to screen two products you will need two decks other wise contact the Derrick screening folks to get the screen cloth you need-

The only problem is that you still have not told us much of any information regarding your project such as describing the screen mounting method, feed rate tonnage , wet or dry feed stocks, final destination for undersize fines and oversize material, rescreening oversize material, screen motor size. let alone if the screening system is in place and you are installing a new screen deck in an existing screening system. if you are using an existing screen, who is the manufacturer? what is the units voltage?

If all you are screening is sand and small aggregate manually with a sifting screen you might as well go to the McMaster Carr catalog and buy hardware cloth to fit your unit and lash it into place with heavy mechanic wire-

You need to tell us more as you have only given us a portion of what information that is needed- sorry but it is not simple to do by posting a question or two on the forum.

What you should do first is take a 12 quart pail of the material in question and holding it at chest height dump it upside down on the ground and then determine the angle of repose to determine the actually needed screening angle for said material-never mind the 15 degree business, then you will know what the angle of repose is for the material to facilitate screening efficiency-this will also tell you the angle for screening the material in question.

Wirecloth Size And Spec

Hello: We do need a fair bit more basic info but, for now.....you can have a 2 deck screener. CIRCLE throw style design is fine. I would install at 20 deg angle (VSMA standard spec or plugin factor)

TOP DECK: 1/2"clear opg SQUARE A/R steel with MRE

SECOND DECK: 3/16" clear opg or 1/4" clear square opg depending on which spec of sand you wish to produce. (concrete sand or masonry sand)

Basically for this screening job.........you would run the machine at 5/16" circle size at 850 rpm range to screen this material which is 100-110 lb/cubic foot wgt. Small tonnage, so small screen. This is not a tough job unless, non free flowing material is abundant, like clay. Should screen dry no prob, if lots of -200's (200mesh) or dirt........wet screening may apply to wash out dirt to meet some specification.

WIRECLOTH: will be standard wirecloth, abrasive resistant wire (oil tempered or high carbon) and a mid grade wire diameter in the opening sizes listed NOT TOO BIG......wire diameter...decreases OPEN AREA......and TPH thru the deck and not too LIGHT........gives lots of TPH but, no LIFE....WEARS out too quick.......raises operating cost per hour.

PS: better to talk in terms of cubic yards per hour or even better in STPH OR MTPH which cross relates to VSMA sizing formulas.
