The answer to your question is yes and it has been done.

There are many issues however as no one will rent in a high risk envoironment unless there is a very big premium. The benefit is usually to keep assets of a balance sheet. If it is being done because the balance sheet is weak or cash flow at risk, then the liklihood of getting a rental, except with second hand equipment, is very low as the criteria by which any rental is assessed is similar to getting a loan from a bank.

In Australia I know of some companies with second hand equipment who will take a risk but no oe who will do so with new equipment.
