Ever finer, ever purer

The international Buhler Technology Group will be represented at the European Coatings Show 2005 in Nuremberg from April 26-28 by two business units - Grinding & Dispersion and Nanotechnology.

At Stand 5-257 in Hall 5, the two Buhler units will show the systems and processes supporting manufacturers of paints & inks and of all types of fine dispersions in developing ever finer and contamination-free products.

Another focus will be on the benefits of products in the field of nanotechnology.

Buhler is highly regarded as a manufacturer of printing ink equipment and systems in the field of paints & inks chemistry. In the exhibition center of Nuremberg, Germany, its Grinding & Dispersion and Nanotechnology units will also present the Group as a leading partner for sophisticated applications involving the dispersion and true grinding of low-viscosity to pasty products. Over the past years, Buhler has expanded its organization both vertically and horizontally, integrating globally distributed process laboratories as well as its proven customer service network. This has made the Group a reliable partner in the development of new processes and the design and construction of processing plants.

Pure process

As an example of its customer-oriented development activities, Buhler will present an absolutely contamination-free grinding process at the European Coatings Show in Nuremberg. Buhler has developed this Pure process (clean room application) especially for applications in the very small particle size range encountered in the electronics industry. It prevents metallic contaminants from entering the product during the manufacture of color filters. By using ceramic or polyurethane coated components instead of steel, an absolutely contamination-free grinding process can be achieved.

Wet microgrinding technology

Buhler will demonstrate new qualities in Nuremberg also in the field of wet grinding technology. Producers of inkjet printer inks, for example, are continuously reducing the sizes of the basic particles in order to prevent clogging of nozzles and to increase the printing quality. The required sizes are in the range of 90 to 400 nm. Buhler bead mills with their high specific energy input and unparalleled grinding media characteristics allow efficient wet micromilling in the desired size range, also of temperature-sensitive products.

Nanotechnology - investing in the future

Customizing and mastering production processes are key factors for launching product innovations using nanoparticles. At the European Coatings Show, Buhler Nanotechnology will present the Buhler-Tailored Nanobatch®, a nanoparticle master batch tailored to customers needs, and the Buhler-Tailored Nanoprocess®, a turnkey nanoparticle process integrated in customers production systems.

In addition, for the first time ever, Buhler Nanotechnology will show its new nanoZ product in Nuremberg. This unique nanoscale zinc oxidesuspension is applied in the field of industrial UV absorption. nanoZ meets top quality standards and is characterized by its narrow particle size distribution and its transparency and durability.
