Dear Sir,

We want to grind 300 mesh Dolomite power to fineness of 500 mesh in the Continuous Ball Mill having stone lining. Grinding media being used are river pebbles.

We are going to procure 300 mesh powder produced in the hammer/roller mill. The 300 mesh powder grinding analysis is as follow (analyzed on Malvern Instrument).

D-97 : 69 microns D-50 : 5 microns

10 Microns : 30 -35% 20 Microns : 60%

What is the maximum % of 10 microns that can be generated by way of Ball Mill Grinding (with pebbles). Objective is to have optimum grinding so as to get best yield of 10 microns by way of Centrifugal Air Classification Process.

Ball Mill is of following configuration:

Inside Diameter : 5.0 fts Length : 13.5 fts

Mill RPM : 22 rpm Motor Power : 55 kW

Th material being charged in the Mill is axially through pinion and the discharge is through slits in the periphery of the Mill Shell.

Please advice what should be the ratio of pebbles to powder, the size of the pebbles and residence time of the material in the mill (or throughput rate) so as to achieve the optimum grinding.

Thanks a lot in advance for the guidance

when using a ball usually the yield on fine material especially when using big flint pebbles on 500 mesh is very low and for this reason the energy effeciency will rise dramatically and capacty will drop down. We could offer you an alternative solution with our agitated media mill MaxxMill, where grinding media in the size of 2 up to 9 mm are used. This machine was especially developed for the dry fine grinding below 63 micron. Experience for calcined diatomite grinding are available on request.

Dear Sir:

Our Rotormill is capable to grind Dolomite limestone down to 300 mesh. We do not use a Ball Mill but the Rotormill. Please contact our office so that we can send our information package to you so that you can see how the Rotormill works. I believe that we can meet your specification of particle analysis and it is a continuous machine. We appreciate your interest in our equipment and we look forward to the possibility of working with you on your application.

Dolomite & Calcite Grinding & Classification

Erstellt am 22. Feb. 2005 - 11:18

Dear Mr. Miller,

Thanks for your response.

We do have a Roller Mill from which we are able to generate 300 mesh product. We desire to have 500 mesh powder from the grinding mill which should contain atleast 60 % 10 microns particles.

The coarse reject of the Centrifugal Classifer should be redirected to the Mill for regrinding alongwith the fresh materail.

Thanking you and looking forward to receive your soonest response.

Best Regards,

Innovative Ultra Fine Grinding Solution

Erstellt am 2. Mar. 2005 - 06:21

Dear Mr. Vyas,

We are an engineering team which is seeking cooperation to exploit a milling technology we have developed.

Being an expert in grinding you would therefore understand our technology's potential;

The technology we have developed is a continuous action planetary centrifugal mill,

for economical large scale ultra fine grinding of super hard materials of ceramic & mineral origin.

While in the development stage, we are providing milling services to local companies.

(We are milling quartz sands, granite pebble, metallurgical slug, glass, zirconium oxide, silica carbide & etc)

Production capacity of the prototype is 1.5 tons/hour (continuous action in open circuit)

Engine capacity of 37 kW

Our milled material is less than five microns and 30% of this material is less then one micron in size.

Surface area by BET 5.1 m2/gr! (continuous action)

Feed fraction 5mm!! -- Which means unmatched down scale factor.

Energy consumption for quartz sand for d97 is:

5 microns max .190 kWh/t

10 microns max. 135 kWh/t

20 microns max. 89 kWh/t

30 microns max. 69 kWh/t

With improvements in our inferior classifier the energy consumption would be lower.

We are not aware of a classifier which could efficiently classify large volume d100 4 micron, if we had this classifier then we would have fulfilled requirement indicators of d50 0.75 micron immediately & probably better results with some effort.

Hardness up to 10 by Moh scale,

The material is mechanically activated.

Our future project is to convert our mill from continuous action to periodic one, than we would have end product in the sub- micron range.

Our technology attracted interest among significant equipment manufacturers & we had been visited & are scheduled for more demonstrations. (I could mention Outokumpu, Netzsch, Eirich, Metso Minerals,Hosokawa Alpine)

If you would like further information on my company and our technology,

please send a short note and I will send further data for your review.

Thank you very much and hope to hear from you soon.

Your ball mill can be filled with approximately 4.5 tons of pepples. This will generate a transferable grinding energy of approximately 33 kW (installed 55 kW). The specific grinding energy for Dolomite from 300 mesh down to 10 micron is approximately 60 kWh/t. That means your mill will produce 0.5 t/h. For such case an Alpine Turboplex Classifier 400 ATP is absolutely sufficient.

Re : Grining Balls In The Ball Mill

Erstellt am 5. Mar. 2008 - 10:03

Do you have any interest to attempt to some different kind of grinidng media ?

Our grinding balls are different from the common forged steel balls and casting iron balls. Our balls are made of the lastest hot rolled technique and advanced on-line heat-treatment lines.

Our balls have the following advantages:

1. High uniform hardness: HRC 55-65 from surface to core

2. High fracture toughness: no less than 12J/cm2

3. Low breakage rate: much less than 1% and almost there is no breakage during regular iperation

4. Permanenet shape: Because of the uniform hardness and precious dimension, our balls won't be out of circularity from start until finish.

Thru those, maybe you could have a clean sketch of our balls. If you have any other questions and interests, please browse our website www.zgffty.com or contact me directly . We do not only care for the business, we could communicate more in this line to promote ourselves.

Ball Mill Grinding Introduction For You

Erstellt am 4. Dec. 2010 - 02:08

A grinding mill is a unit operation designed to break a solid material into smaller pieces. There are many types of grinding mills and many types of materials processed in the grinding mills. Mills were powered by hand (mortar and pestle), working animal, wind (windmill) or water (watermill) historically. Today they are also and more often powered by electricity.

A typical type of fine grinder is the ball mill grinder. A slightly inclined or horizontal rotating cylinder which makes up the ball mill grinder body is partially filled with steel balls, usually stone or metal, which grinds material to the necessary fineness by friction and impact with the tumbling balls with the rotation of the ball mill grinder. Ball mill grindings are characterized by their smaller (comparatively) diameter and longer length. The feed is at one end of the ball mill grinding cylinder and the discharge is at the other end of the ball mills grinder. Ball mill grinders are commonly used in the manufacture of Portland cement. These industrial ball mill grindings are mainly big machines. Small versions of ball mill grinders can be found in laboratories where they are used for grinding sample material for quality assurance.

Ball mill grinding may serve the following purposes in engineering: 1. Increase of the surface area of a solid. 2. Manufacturing of a solid with a desired grain size. 3. Pulping of resources.
