Dewatering

Hi,

Where can I obtain information about dewatering in vibratory screens?

I need to separate solids in 0.2 mm. (0.008”) from 30 tons/hour of water.

I have read a lot of information and guidelines about screen solids in different sizes, but I have not founded anything about liquids across screens.

Thanks,

Dewatering Screen Information

Hello German:

We would need a little more information ...... what is the percentage of solids to water ratio?

GENERAL rule of thumb: When dewatering solids from slurry we can use a flat or horizontal vibrating screen, polyurethane deck very good fit in this app.

OR.......for this fine cut.......a lot of operaters use a high speed vibrating deck setup in an UPHILL (+-8 degrees) discharge angle

The unit, typically very small (to keep the weight down) say 4x8 or 5x12 range....would run high RPM's with a very tiny circle stroke to get the material out and end up on your takeaway belt relatively dry. Depending on the solids to slurry ratio DERRICK screen may be a possible fit here and others similar to that type of setup.

The DERRICK Mfg company techs would easily be able to say yes or no on whether your job is do-able on a screener. Because this is what they do..........they have good data on this type of thing.

If a screen is not possible to do this job........and once again depending on the solids to slurry ratio....you may be better off with a ORTNER disc which will take out up to 20-30% fines by a simple overflow weir design.

PS: I am not trying to sell either of the products mentioned above but, I know they are possible good picks here.

George,

Many thanks for your response.

The concentration in this case is about 10% of solids.

My idea is to use a horizontal vibrating screen with some upright angle.

I remember have seen any years ago a horizontal screen dewatering paper pulp with a lot of water and separating very well, it used Johnson screen (flat with triangular bars, perpendicular to flow).

As I have read, vibration don’t affect to liquids, only move the solid products maintained over the screen, separating this from water and then the water will cross the screen for gravity. In this theory, the water flow across the screen will only depend from liquid characteristics and the screen.

My doubts are about the water crossing the screen, how many flow can cross for area unit of screen.

Thanks again
