Duesseldorf, Germany

October 20 – 27, 2004

Herbold Meckesheim GmbH is a leading manufacturer of size reduction equipment for the plastics industry. We are located in Meckesheim, Germany. Our product line comprises machines and systems for the size-reduction and recycling of plastic materials:

granulators

pulverizers

shredders

HOG shredders

hammer mills

plastcompactors

guillotines

washing/separation/drying lines

We are specialized in the recycling of scrap for the plastics industry, the recycling of used and mixed post consumer or post industrial plastics, the pulverization of plastics granules and regrind and many other applications of our machines in the preparation of materials, resource recycling and mechanical transforming in various industries.

Second hand machinery is also part of our business. We have approximately 250 size reduction and recycling machines with ancillaries constantly on stock for the short term solution to your problem.

Herbold Meckesheim GmbH operates world wide (in approx. 50 countries) via sales agents and has its own subsidiary in the USA. In 2004 we exhibit at 17 tradeshows and international conferences throughout the world.

Our K Show exhibits:

SMP series:

granulator for horizontal feeding of pipes and profiles.

PU series:

pulverizer for rigid and semi-rigid materials.

HV series:

plastcompactor for film, fibres, crystallisation of PET.

SML 60/145 + friction washer:

basic washing and separation unit.

HGM series:

special shredder for contaminated materials e. g. tyres, post-consumer plastic waste.

Our K Show novelties:

1) HOG shredder

HERBOLD Meckesheim GmbH has developed a new series of low-speed HOG-shredders expanding their product range: HGM series, available in four sizes

HGM 60/100, HGM 60/145, HGM 80/160, and HGM 100/210:

2) Recycling of PET flakes with the HERBOLD Plastcompactor

The successful recycling of PET bottle flakes is a new field of endevour for the HERBOLD plastcompactor.

It is possible to use some 20 to 30% of recycled material consisting of PET flakes for thermoforming film if the feed material has been gently recycled. For this purpose the material has to be crystallised and the flakes transformed into an easily flowing material with a high bulk density.

The HERBOLD plastcompactor does these two functions perfectly well with only a slight loss of viscosity, since the material is not plastified but slightly sintered between the two compacting discs. Scheme 1 shows the procedure: the washed flakes are conveyed into the compacting chamber with a feeding screw.

Contrary to other recycling procedures the HERBOLD plastcompactor is a particularly gentle recycling system. The material does not reach the melting point but the particles are only slightly sintered: this guarantees the desired crystallisation without the unwanted decrease of the IV value beyond a degree that would make an after condensation necessary.

This procedure is an economic one, due to the automatic disc setting, and feasibility without staff. Units with a throughput rate from 200 to 1000 kg/h are available. A typical model is the HV 50 with 110 kW drive and a throughput of approx. 800 kg/h if A-PET or PET-G.

The automatic processing control unit especially designed and developed for this procedure assures that the parameters will be automatically controlled and this guarantees particularly high throughputs. Your existing units can be retrofitted to accept the changes. The photo shows a stock silo with an infeed screw and a HV 50 plastcompactor unit.

3) Modular Washing Line for PET Bottles

HERBOLD Meckesheim with a more than twenty years’ tradition in the manufacture of granulators, washing and separation lines can now supply their recycling plant for PET bottles according to a modular system: even with a small budget a simple grinding, washing and separation plant can be delivered that will satisfy a great number of quality requirements. With the help of additional modules, e.g. high temperature washing, multistep separation, color separation, etc. an existing plant can be further equipped in order to satisfy the highest requirements in respect to the cleanness of PET flakes. As well part of HERBOLD’s product range is a plastcompactor that is able to produce a slightly degraded well flowing material with a high bulk density. A possible application of this recycled PET is the manufacture of packing strips.
