Crusher type selection

Posted in: , on 22. Jan. 2004 - 11:06

What could be the alternate type of crusher (other than ring granulator) which could be selected for the application given below and its advantage over ring granulator:

Material: coal, Bituminous.

Moisture: 15% , as received coal contains varying level of fines which form adhesive lumps during monsoon when surface moisture is highest.

HGI: 45-55

Shale and sanstone content in coal: upto 20%

Size: feed(-) 250 mm., occasional 400 mm.lump also.

output (-)25 mm, 98%.

Capacity:1200- 1650 MTPH.

Dear Shri G Ravindra,

For the coal crushing size range mentioned by you, the ring granulators have been widely used in India and in USA, if the moisture conditions are not unusual. It seems that you have unusually high percentage of moisture.

1) The ring granulator has bottom grate bars. So, if the material is very sticky and pasty one should avoid ring granulator.

2) The ring granulator advantage is that it demands least power in crushing of coal in certain size ranges, and it also ensures limitation of the maximum product size due to grate bars.

3) You can think of using swing hammer crusher or fixed hammer impactor. The swing hammer crusher can be with or without grate bars. However, the swing hammer also has self-cleaning / sweeping action which is lacking in case of ring granulator.

I suggest you to refer crusher manufacturers who will study your specific application in depth and can suggest you the right solution.
