Overload During Ratholing Situation

Gentlemen,

I have a problem to solve and I would like to submit it to you.

I have got a 16 m high, 6 m diameter silo, inside of it there is a powder with density of 0.86 kg/dm3. Under the silo there is a bin activator of 2.35 m diameter.

If I consider that into the silo a ratholing situation can happen, my problem is to calculate the load on the bin activator when, suddenly, the material stoked on the wall fell down.

Are there some articles/books in which I can find some formulas that take into consideration the weight and also the overload due to fall down of the powder?

If someone knows this issue, please give me some information about it

BY INSTALLING A CONE(A SPECIAL DESIGN) IN ITHE SILO.WE HAVE DESIGNED SILO FEEDING AND DISCHARGE SYSTEMS FOR MORE THEN 50 SILOS.

Silo Hang Up

the effect that your ratholed material will have is simply a total of

one gravity or g force weight of the material total falling down to the bottom of the silo, I would definitely say that if you really concerned and intend to keep this silo, you should install very small apron feeder under it and your hang up problems will probably disappear as the movement of the apron feeder will create enough vibration to keep the material flowing unless it is very wet material. you also do not state as to the loading area in this silo- if it is not centered the material will find its natural angle of repose and every time you turn of the bin vibrator it will pack itself even tighter untill gravity assumes its duties and it falls in toatal to the bottom of the silo.
