DYNAMIC PRE-ACT IMPROVES QUALITY & ELIMNATES NEED FOR EXPENSIVE HARDWARE
After six months of in-plant operation, Phillips Electric’s new PLC software has proven that accurate powder charging can be accomplished with “slam it shut” slide gate valves. This eliminates the need for expensive and maintenance intensive multi-position, rotary valves, or other metering hardware. The control strategy can be added to existing controllers or implemented in a PLC added to the system. At a leading international facility, seven weigh hoppers were placed under this control strategy and have been delivering unprecedented charge accuracy (<0.5%) at charging rates up to 6000 lb./min. This shows for the first time that accurate powder metering can be accomplished with standard of the shelf hardware and adapted to changing plant conditions.
