Pulse Dense Phase Pneumatic System

Posted in: , on 22. Oct. 2002 - 16:05

Any interruption of pneumatic conveying resulting

in plugging is a nightmare for people on site.

We developed and successfully tested a new

system based on the special valve installed on the

discharge end of a pipeline. Now the conveying

consists of two successive stages: static stage

(valve closed, compressed air supply does not stop

so all pipeline is pumped up to the determined

high pressure) and transporting stage (valve is

opened,air supply-non stop,material in the pipe

under "flash effect" is rised and thrown out of the

pipe, pressure drops to the low determined value

and the valve is closed again).

Advantages of the new system:

- solid/air ratio much higher than for usual systems

- the process can be stopped and re-started many

times without cleaning the pipeline,

- material can be easily distributed between many

clients,

- interruption is one of the stages of the process,

so no plugging,no problems, and people on site

can smile all the time.

I assume that this is a dilute phase system fed by a rotary valve. Is there a feed bin above the rotary valve because of the batch operation? How do you control the conveying velocity because the pressure at the end of the line will be the same as that at the beginning?

Sounds interesting. If possible give some more details.

The Pulse System consists of a pressure tank ( low

discharge ) , a pipeline and the special end "on-off" valve.

The pressure tank was alterated to allow maximum

quantity of a powder material entering to the system.

The more material in the system the better.

The velocity of the material "jumping" from the pipeline

is the function of the pressure in the system only.

The optimal solid/air ratio for the System is between

60 and 200 depending on the length of pipeline.
