Re: Kn Fabric / Carcass ? For Conveyor Belting
Hi Bruce,
I am not familiar with the KN fabric designation (but I'm interested in finding out about it). Do you have the manufacturer's name? I would not be surprised if this designation is a marketing ploy to separate a belt from the pack.
Alternatively, it could be an erosion of ISO/DIN designations in the same manner that N is frequently used instead of P to signify Nylon.

Kn Designation
Dear Bruce:
There are a couple of things that this can designate. kN is the designation for kilonewtons, which is a measurement of stress. The other possibility is an old BF Goodrich designation for their PVC constructions-Koroseal Nylock or KN.
Hope this helps. ■
Re: Kn Fabric / Carcass ? For Conveyor Belting
Hello Bruce
KN does stand for Kuralon Nylon and it is also known as VN = Vinylon Nylon.
Kuralon was the trade name from Kuraray, I think, of Japan for their polyvinyl acolohol yarn.
For many hears it was the only available alternative to nylon for synthetic belt duck but had a number of undesirable features - high moisture absorption combined with strength and modulus loss, low elongation at break.
It has now been replaced by Polyester Nylon (PN or EP). It would be 10 years since we made our last KN belt.
hope this helps

Thanks Ray
I thought this was the case but had nothing to verify it with.
It's been many years since I heard the term, we are showing our ages.
Ray, I know your name, where are you from ? ■
