Pharmaceutical Dust Collection

Dear sir,

I need to collect the Pharmaceutical Dust its size is below 50 micron. I have machine with heap filter, but I need to collect the material into the separate vessel and dispose it in a safe manner.

I filled the water in the vessel and dipped the suction inlet into it, but the powder is get motorised and spread into the filter. it become like a gum, so the filter is choking quickly.

What should I do to collect the dust into the vessel and dispose it in a safe manner. please give me some methods.

Thanks.

This is a complicated question. A major issue will be avoiding cross-contamination of different products. Also, disposal of the collected dust becomes a water pollution problem if you intend to collect it this way. Hence, you will need to heavily involve the production personnel. Engage a competent dust collection contractor or consultant to advise you.

One Possible Solution

It seems that the powder is not readily soluble in water. Have you tried any other solvent which might point you in the direction of a solvent recovery process.

As Michael suggests, you production personnel are vital in agreeing to any proposal.

For myself I have no idea what the powder is, how much there is and what a heap filter is.

Hi Mohan

what is the nature of dust , typically pharmaceutical dust are higly hygroscopic? do you have properties of dust?

are their any dust collector ? are you manufacturing pharmaceuticals ? I can able to send questair form for before design dust collector , please check how many dust escape points , dimensions , then can design total CFM requirement and canopi sizes I sugest Glass prolypoplene is better filter media ,

any way better way is you consult dust collector designer

thanks and regards

Moisture Content

as other suggested, first of all you need to understand the properties of dust or bulk material.

As you said it become like gum, please note:

One of the characteristics of bulk material is the saturation of moisture content.

Testing has shown that cohesion and adhesion increase as moisture increases until enough moisture has been applied to begin fluidizing the material and reducing the cohesion, as attached picture from Martin Engineering's Foundations book.

So maybe you can do some simple tests in laboratory to find the amount of water needed to pass material from saturation, so reduce cohesion.
