If one refers to any beam formula for deflection; one will find that deflection is proportional to the inverse of modulus of elasticity of material. As the temperature increases, carcass and rubber modulus of elasticity decreases i.e. deflection magnitude increases. This implies belt ability to sustain shape within confine of idlers circular constrain, will diminish. The information can be used to decide belt stiffness at usual temperature so that stiffness at operational temperature is suitable for functional need. Here stiffness is with respect to belt width.
The belt stiffness is by combined effect of rubber and carcass, as if composite member. The information could be of use for the concerned issue.
As for polyamide (nylon weft) material, as per Contitech Germany ‘no degradation upto 170 degree C. Marked drop in strength from 170 degree C’.
If you are using steel cord belt, then lateral stiffness will be only by rubber, unless it has some lean ply, etc.
Design calculation and conclusion demands certain testing, unless one has past experience or data bank.

High Temperature Pipe Conveyors
one of our client intends to install pipe conveyor for clinker. Maximum temperature of clinker may reach up to 130 deg centigrade. We would like to know whether pipe conveyors are suitable for such material .I feel as material will be transported in enclosed pipe compared to open transportation in conventional conveyor belt may create problem

CDI has experience with pipe conveyors at higher temperatures. There are many dependent features that need review before a recommendation can be made:
1. Capacity
2. Pipe size and speed
3. Clinker size
4. Horizontal and vertical route geometry
5. Belt line tensions
6. Splice safety factor
7. Power consumption efficiency desired
to name a few. ■
Hot Clinker
Dear Mr. Singh,
from past experience with power station ash I would put in, that probably the issue of temperature can be solved by carefully designing and choosing the belt quality, consulting knowledgeable experts as per above post. My thought: clinker is a material of a lumpy nature where the single object has a sizeable geometry which includes edges and tips. These might, considering the temperature and relative to the belt movements / belt pressure from outside (closing of the tube) degrade the top cover to a higher extent than previewed. I would propose that the choice of the belt supplier should be done also based on specific references / else sufficient testing is to be done. This last provision might prove difficult.
