Problem of Jamming in Iron Ore Bunker

Posted in: , on 20. Jan. 2013 - 19:04

Our iron ore bunker of capacity 80 t is recently getting frequent material jamming at its discharge. The only change in the raw material is the % of alumina in iron ore is increased by 5%. Our bunkers are MS made with out any internal liners. But we never faced these problem of chocking before few months. Can anybody suggest any solution?

Alumina is hygroscopic. Is the before and after moisture situation known from the downstream process data?

It is not clear whether the outlet jams due to lumps or cohesive arching. The first step is to estabish the reason for the blockages. Have comparative samples been tested for shear strength?

Hello,

The easiest solution is to have S.S. liners at bunker outlet zone for about 1.5 / 2.0 m length from outlet opening. S.S. has less friction coefficient compared to M.S. and so, it may work, if jamming problem is not so acute.

The next solution is to install vibrator at chute outlet zone.

If both do not work, then the issue is of more serious nature i.e. outlet size is quite smaller compared to minimum required and needs to be increased, could be only along one axis or both the axes in plan view.
