Horizontal Curvature from Both Sides

Posted in: , on 21. Mar. 2012 - 14:31

Dear Sirs,

In one of the my project need to go for the horizontal curvature from the both sides in a stretch of 1200m. This is due to unavoidable circumstance in available conveyor corridor.

Can horizontal radius given from both the sides ?

How many horizontal radius can be given in single flight conveyor?

What are the limitations from the Belting properties point of view ?

Expert's and experienced personnel's review are highly appreciated.

Pipe Conveyor Best Suits This Requirement.

sir,

i dont have much idea ,but i can say that pipe conveyor can negotiate compound curves ,hence pipe conveyor most suit to your requirement than trough belt conveyor.Pipe conveyor will take lesser radius compared to trough belt conveyor hence if you have a space constraint i hope pipe conveyor can be better solution.

Thanks

Multiple Horizontal Curves On Common Belt

I suggest you read readily available literature on the many horizontal curve installations. Recent 2012 SME paper, by CDI's, Mr. Andrew Jennings on Essroc Overland cites a good response to your question. This installation has many reversing horizontal curves over its 3 km length.

The brief answer is: you can apply as many back-and-forth horizontal curves as the conveyor route may allow. Allowance is depedent on type of belt construction, tonnage, speed, length, idler trough configuration, and terrain.

Many engineers recently had thought curve radii and length of arc had limitations without regard to the above. These wives-tales are born from ignorance. CDI have designed steel cord belt with horizontal curvatures down to 400 m radii @ >1.0 m wide belt and less than 300 m for fabric. These are not the ultimate limitations just indicative. See our website: www.conveyor-dynamics.com

Steel cord trough belt horizontal curvature ratios to belt width: a) ~400:1, b) fabric = ~250:1. Pipe conveyors curvature ratios can be give as a multiple of horizontal curve radii to pipe diameter: a) steel cord ~600:1, b) fabric ~300:1. You must know the engineering principles behind these factors or you should not attempt to use these numbers.
