POSCO ORDERS CONVEYING TECHNOLOGY FOR THE NON-BLAST FURNACE ROUTE No. 3
Rheinberg, Germany - July 2011 – The South Korean steel producer POSCO has ordered conveying technology from AUMUND in Rheinberg for its non-blast-furnace route No.3 at the Pohang works (Korea). In the scope of supply are two bucket apron conveyors for HCI as well as a bucket elevator for coal and for ore for each unit. The new line is designed for an annual capacity of two million tonnes. It is scheduled for commissioning in 2012.
The AUMUND bucket apron conveyors (Type BZB-H-I) are 205 and 86 metres long. They connect the direct reduction plant to the downstream melting unit and as a result overcome a height difference of 81 and 37m respectively. With a bucket width of 1200 and 1000 millimetres respectively they achieve a conveying capacity of 480 or 350 tonnes per hour respectively and are among the largest in the world.
Lines No.1 and No.2 had already been equipped with AUMUND conveying technology. The inerting system, via which the HCI is reliably transported in a gas protected atmosphere under a special heat insulated hood, played a decisive role in the winning of the repeat contract. In contrast to other technologies both heat loss and energy consumption can be significantly reduced in this system.
The bucket elevator for coal is the world’s largest in this application. It transports the coal with a bucket width of 630 millimetres and a capacity of 250 tonnes per hour at a height of 90 metres. Apart from coal this bucket elevator can also convey coke, dolomite and quartz. Fine ore is also transported in a bucket elevator. It is 57 metres high and achieves a capacity of 525 tonnes of ore per hour utilising a bucket width of 500 millimetres.
