Upper Lakes Shipping Celebrates its 75th Anniversary

August 16th of this year marked 75 years of successful business operations for Upper Lakes Shipping (ULS)

As part of that celebration, Jack Leitch and the Upper Lakes Group, of which ULS is the cornerstone, sponsored a number of special events and celebrations. The 75th anniversary began with a special presentation at the annual Marine Club Dinner in Toronto and continue through an Open House on the 16th of August at ULGI headquarters.

Since its start in 1932, ULS has grown from a single grain elevator in Toronto and a single ship - the Sarnian - to the foundation for the Upper Lakes Group Inc. From these humble beginnings, Gordon Leitch and his son Jack Leitch, have constructed a business empire that includes one the largest fleets on the Great lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway; a marine and industrial services group that provides services ranging from ship repair and shipbuilding to fuel bunkering and industrial repair inside and outside of the marine industry; a grain trading and port facility services group that own and operate grain terminal facilities throughout the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway System; and a property development and golf course operations group that are leading an exciting residential development project in Alberta and which operates the Heritage Point Golf Club on adjacent lands.

As a client focused integrated group of service providers, ULGI will continue the proud tradition of innovation created by ULS as it pursues new global markets and provides its clients with evolving and responsive services and products.
