Manufacturer of metal IBC organised within an association

Düsseldorf, July 26, 2010 – The leading European manufacturers of metal IBC have joint forces under the umbrella of the German Metal Packaging Association – Verband Metallverpackungen e.V. (VMV) – and founded the Stainless Steel Container Association (SSCA).

As a product-oriented working group within VMV the Stainless Steel Container Association will safeguard the interests of the manufacturers of Metal-IBC and accompany the IBC on its whole life-cycle from the manufacturing via the use and reuse to recycling.

Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) are used for transport and storage of liquid, pasty and powdery or granular goods. Metal-IBC (M-IBC) are applied in almost all branches of the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry as well of the food and luxurious food industry and in retail and industry for the efficient stock turn. Normally they are manufactured from stainless steel. Stainless steel can be cleaned very easily and residue-free because the substances stored in the M-IBC cannot diffuse into the material. Therefore metal IBC can be used also as aseptic foodstuffs container. A special feature of M-IBC is that the approvals for the transport of dangerous goods are not limited as this is the case for other packagings for the transport of dangerous goods. By means of a periodical inspection – done within two and a half year – the approvals can be prolonged again and again. Furthermore it shall be emphasized that M-IBC in particular are predestined for the storage and transport of flammable products.

Founding members of the SSCA are Automationstechnik GmbH, Langenwang (Austria), Azzini S.p.A., Soresina (Italy), Contek IBC Service GmbH, Ellrich (Germany), Finncont Oy, Virrat (Finland), Schäfer Werke GmbH, Neunkirchen (Germany) und UCON AG, Hausach (Germany).

Jens Gozian (UCON AG) was elected as chairman, Christof Ermert (Schäfer Werke GmbH) as vice-chairman.

Each company can become a member of SSCA that shares the aims of the association and supports it both financially and conceptually.
