The Schaeffler Group and Henan University of Science and Technology (HUST) begin first projects

Cooperation with Chinese University Intensified

Herzogenaurach/Schweinfurt, July 15, 2010 - The Schaeffler Group and the Henan University of Science and Technology (HUST) in China have intensified their cooperation with the signing of an initial contract about joint development projects. A delegation from the university lead by Professor Dr. Zhili Zhou, Vice President of the HUST visited Herzogenaurach and Schweinfurt last week in order to familiarize themselves with the company’s central locations. Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler, owner of the Schaeffler Group, welcomed the guests on Thursday in Herzogenaurach. The contracts were signed in Schweinfurt on Friday in the presence of Rainer Hundsdörfer, President of Schaeffler Group Industrial, and Dr. Arbogast Grunau, President of Development Schaeffler Group Industrial. The cooperation had already been agreed in principle in March of this year during a visit by representatives of the Schaeffler Group to the HUST in Luoyang, China.

Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler emphasized the great importance that the Schaeffler Group has placed on the innovative force of the company since its origins. It goes without saying that the Schaeffler Group will now expand its research and development work to meet the requirements of the global market. “We want to participate in the continuous economic and technical progress in China on the basis of this self-image”, said Mrs. Schaeffler. She was convinced that many good ideas and forward-looking innovations would emerge from this partnership between the company and science.

In his welcoming speech in Schweinfurt, Dr. Grunau explained the milestones of innovative development of the brands INA, FAG and LuK, and also emphasized the special importance of the Schweinfurt location as the headquarters and Corporate Development location of Schaeffler Group Industrial. He gave the unique know-how in aerospace and railway applications as examples.

The guests were extremely impressed after completing extensive visits of the locations. They gave an insight in their presentation into different research fields and the syllabus at the HUST, which also have rolling bearing technology as a central focus. The HUST is one of the most renowned technical universities in China with approximately 35,000 students and numerous national and international cooperation agreements.

The Schaeffler Group and its 61,000 employees at more than 180 locations worldwide generates group sales of 7.3 billion euros (FY 2009) and ranks amongst the leading rolling bearing manufacturers and suppliers to the automotive industry worldwide. The Schaeffler Group has been active in China since 1995 and currently employs approximately 4,000 employees there. The Group has a research and development center in Anting, Shanghai, five manufacturing locations in Taicang, Suzhou and Ningxia, as well as a total of 19 sales offices nationwide.

Congratulations!

HUST has established a separate college to research and develop bearings many years ago.

It's also the only college to research bearings in China.

It has many experienced professors and teachers.

HUST did great contribution to promote Luoyang's industry, even China's bearing industry.
