You might consider the flow as a fluid and apply the following theory

Am I correct in assuming you are not using a compressed air cylinder to move the
flap gate back and forth to divert the incoming flow from one side to the other
side of the stck pile?
over here anyway the cylonders are used to simply move the flap gate back and forth and
come to a stop to allow an even draw on both sides of the stock pile as the coal is minus2 inches anyway. ■

Torque for the Flap Gate
Dear All,
I am currently working on the project of handling coal at 500 thp. There are few flap gates to be design in this system.
Can i know from you all that how can i provide the loads/torque coming from the material by impact to the actuator manufacturer. ■
