Rotary Valves

Polytec Urethane Castings is a sole owned Durban based manufacturing company with regional sales offices in Gauteng and Kwa-zulu Natal, South Africa. We have been in operation for approximately 15 years, specializing in the manufacture of polyurethane products, as well as, the design and fabrication of specialist engineering components. All our products are manufactured from high quality imported chemicals.

We specialize in the following areas:

1.Plant design and layouts

2.Design and manufacture of machine parts

3.Turn key projects

4.Machine building and design

5.Manufacture of polyurethane products

Our vision embodies the provision a professional, timeous, high quality service that is above all, customer oriented.

Innovations in rotary valve technology provides massive cost savings

Polytec Urethane Castings, have successfully redesigned the traditional gravity fed rotary valve by using modern materials and innovative designs. Their Blue Scoop rotary valves are not only highly reliable and wear resistant they are also light weight and maintain high collection efficiencies. The integration of modern materials means that they are considerably more cost effective to manufacture and maintain. This results in a massive overall cost saving which is passed onto the purchaser.

The problem with conventional rotary valve designs is that they are typically manufactured from cast iron. This means that they are often heavy and difficult to handle and generally over designed for their intended application. The metal on metal wear of the blades on the inner casing significantly reduces rotary valve life-span due to rapid reduction in airlock efficiencies, particularly when used with abrasive products. Another problem was the lodgment of the product between the blades and the internal casing of the valve resulting in valve seizures and damage to valve blades, shafts and drive motors, not to mention the down time costs. These “old design” problems had not been adequately addressed in the past, until now.

Blue Scoop rotary valves are fabricated from mild steel plate. The side covers, rotor-shaft, blades and internal casing are all lined with food grade imported polyurethane. The lined rotor-blade and tips produce a wipe action against the lined inner casing resulting in:

1.Significant wear reduction (three times the wear resistance of stainless steel).

2.The maintenance of greater airlock efficiencies.

3.Prevention of lodgments and valve seizures.

4.Polyurethane is a non-stick material.

5.Gentle product handling.

6.Significant noise and vibration reduction.

7.Lightweight and easy to handle.

The robust modular design means that Blue Scoop rotary valves are easily disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. Rotor shafts, blades and the casing can all be easily interchanged and returned to the manufacturer for refurbishment, so there is no longer a need to purchase a complete unit.

Blue Scoop rotary valves have proved to be highly successful in the animal feed industry over the past eight years. They have been designed to regulate the flow of powder, granular, pellet and fibrous products. The use of flange bearings and mechanical seals provides for high pressure conveying systems and can handle product temperatures up to 90 0C and pressures of 1 bar.

Polytec Urethane Castings have made similar breakthroughs in the local manufacture of cost effective, durable polyurethane products such as elevator buckets, conveyor rollers and skirting, couplings and pipeline pigs and plugs.
