INVERTED CONE: Construction Methods within Concrete Silos

INVERTED CONE: Construction Methods

I'm a Civil Engineer in Spain.

I have designed and built many INVERTED CONE concrete silos during the past 12 years (single silos & multichamber silos).

I am doing research around the world, in order to collect data about all types of challenging methods of constructing the inside inverted cones within the concrete silos.

I will gather all the information and put it all within a handbook that will instruct constructors about the different methods of building concrete silo walls, silo roofs and, specially, INVERTED CONES, as it is the most critical activity in every silo built. Scaffolding methods,

I would very much appreciate any information, pictures, videos, construction methods, ... , specially regarding inverted cones.

(I can receive data up to 10 Mb per document at my e-mail)

Thank you all, in advance, for your feedback.

Regards,

M. Martin.

Hi

I am not sure that this is a real challenge

Assume that the walls are slip formed or jumped formed

I have seen /heard of

All cones sections are pre cast triangles

Smaller diameter - install with mobile crane on the inside and boom up.

Stop silo wall forming and lift sections in from top

Finish walls and lift in over from top

Typically the cone sections are tied back to the silo wall before seeting at the right angle. Then the gaps between each section are grouted together and a cap cast.

I do know of large diameter silos where the cone sections were 2 piece ie formed a lower cone and then the upper cone section on top.

The designer typically designs the silo with several construction methods in mind

Hope that this helps

Cheers
