Outotec establishes a new subsidiary in Kolkata

December 4, 2009 - Outotec has established a subsidiary in India in order to better serve its Indian customers and to increase its business in the growing Indian market. Outotec India offers the full range of Outotec's technologies and services for the mining and metals industry. Outotec has already hired some thirty skilled professionals for sales, engineering and project services in India and other countries.

Outotec has decades-long experience in India through its predecessors Outokumpu and Lurgi Metallurgie and has a solid customer base in the country. Some of the most recent technology deliveries include refinery technology to Anrak Aluminium, an iron ore pelletizing plant to Tata Steel and iron ore sintering plants to Bhushan Steel.

The mining and metals industry growth in India, fuelled by huge population, fast economic growth and major reserves of natural resources, sets increasing demand for Outotec's technologies, equipment and services. Additionally, Outotec's sustainable solutions support India with major challenges in emission control, energy efficiency and water consumption. In 2008, Outotec's sales to India were above EUR 80 million.

Virendra Kaul, Managing Director of Outotec India, says: "We have established customer relationships in India and the new local operation in Kolkata improves our cooperation with Indian mining and metals companies. Now, the entire Outotec technology and service offering is easily available to our customers."

The inauguration of the Outotec India Pvt. in Kolkata took place on December 4, 2009.
