I am doing a quick calculation for a 5.5km long pipe conveyor for bidding.Here is some information about this job:
Pipe diameter: 400 mm
Max. lump size: 140 mm
Belt speed: 171 m/minute
Idler spacing (carry): 1.8 m
Idler spacing (return): 3.6 m
Using fabric belt.The material to be conveyed is iron ore.Assuming the density of iron ore is 1.7 ton/m^3
Conveyor capacity is 1500 ton/hr
The big problem of this job is that from 766m through 1882m away from the tail there is a 276m drop in elevation.The other parts of the route are relatively flat.The head is 333m lower than the tail.I am considering to use a drive at the head and a brake at the tail.The tail brake is to account for the dramatic loss of belt tension in this downhill section.
My concern is this layout would result in fairly high belt tension at the tail,which is not economical for belt construction.Could anybody give me some advice on this job,e.g.,the layout of drives,brakes,and take-ups,etc.
