Maximum Conveyor Belt Speed

Dear ALL.

we are facing a new project of upgrading some of our conveyers belts

from 24" to 36".

we are considering what will be the maximum speed of the conveyer in order to minimize the fugitive emissions.

data:

material : potash (Potassium Chloride) dry

Particle Sizemm.

2%1.000

20%0.600

93%0.106

dust content- very high

Bulk Density 1.11-1.15 MT/M3 loose

Angle of repose: 30

angle(lift) of conveyer :15

filling :65%

horizontal length of conveyer: 60 meter.

we are using idler with angel of 35

thanks

yossi

My simplistic assumption is that you are slowing it all down by using bigger belts. You don't mention any increased throughput. Your speed can be reduced in inverse proprtion to the ratio of the carrying cross sections.

If you increase the fill from 65% to 75% you can reduced the speed a bit more to match the available gearboxes. Some will say you can fit a variable speed drive & play with different speeds. You could also fit covers over the belt.

It's a bigger job than it sounds: good luck.

.. or what the present throughput is.

Dear Yossi,

It is possible that you are working with suspended conveyors, in a underground KCl mine. Is it true?

I am supposing it because you described the material as dry, and this material is highly higroscopic, and under normal atmospherical conditions and temperatures, will never remain "dry".

If you are upgrading, may be you are re-using new components.

So, in this case the recommended speed will depends on the technical data of the components you have at your disposal.

correction : not "re-using new components", but " re-using old parts"
