Generation 5 Continues to Make Advances in Denmark:

Model 7 Gottwald Mobile Harbour Crane for the Port of Aalborg

Düsseldorf, Germany, July 13, 2009Port of Aalborg Ltd., Denmark, also referred to as the Nordic Transport Centre, has recently ordered a G HMK 7608 B Mobile Harbour Crane, a variant of Model 7 in the current Generation 5 series, from Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald) for handling bulk materials, containers and general cargo. This 4-rope crane has a 50-tonne grab curve, is classified as A8, has a maximum lifting capacity of 140 t and a maximum radius of 51 m.

The customer will use this diesel-electric crane not only for professional, heavy-duty bulk handling but also for moving containers and project cargoes such as components for wind turbines weighing up to 140 t. It is suitable for handling bulk materials alongside vessels up to cape size or moving containers to and from post-Panamax ships and, dependent on terminal and operating conditions, achieves handling rates of up to 1,500 tph.

As was the case with the previous cranes delivered to Denmark, this one is being manufactured in Düsseldorf. It will enter active service in November 2009 in the north Jutland Port of Aalborg, the gateway to the North Atlantic and Greenland.

Port Engineer, Tom Hansen, the responsible department head at Port of Aalborg Ltd., explained the reasons for buying this crane: "We opted for a 4-rope Mobile Harbour Crane by Gottwald because we needed not just a high-performance machine for bulk handling but also a universally applicable and, as a result, economical crane to strengthen our fleet. After carefully weighing up the available options, it was apparent that Gottwald offered us the best choice, with a technologically superior crane at a competitive price. Further advantages like lower operating costs, less exhaust gases and less noise are a result of the environmentally-compatible diesel-electric drive system. The new machine makes it possible for us to respond flexibly to future shifts in market needs."

John Muller of Port Trade, based in Fredericia, Denmark, who has been Gottwald Representative since 1985, comments: "We are highly pleased that this new crane for the Port of Aalborg continues the tradition of orders placed in the past and that Port of Aalborg Ltd. has, once again, put its trust in a Gottwald product. This Model 7 crane will be the largest, most powerful Mobile Harbour Crane in North Europe. Due to its efficiency in handling a range of cargoes, including bulk, which is a task hitherto reserved for purpose-built machinery, it has the added advantage that it can be used for moving any other form of cargo quickly and efficiently, thanks to its high lifting capacity and versatility. It is also particularly satisfying that, once again, the energy-saving diesel-electric drive concept of Gottwald cranes was a decisive factor in the decision."
