Wax Handling

Posted in: , on 27. Jan. 2009 - 08:59

Dear Forum Members,

Its one of THOSE questions!

I will shortly be seconded to a new Wax Handling Plant, that is now in design phase.

I have no information, other than the product, and that there will be conveying (movement), storage and bagging facilities.

What must I look out for in terms of the above?

I am also looking for more info on moving wax pellets/flakes.

Hydraulic conveying - Pneumatic conveying - Belt conveying?

Not much to go on. I have some experience in handling plastic pellets, but this is a different product, with a very low melting point, and something which I guess will tend to block easily.

Best Regards,

Dave.

You will have to come back to the forum when you know more about what you're looking for.

As it stands you can expect this thread to be buried under speculative sales pitches which will alienate the later serious advice that you should be getting.

Pneumatic Conveying Of Wax

Dave,

I do not know what kind of wax you are conveying but for a waxy material with a melt index of about 300 I have used chilled air and a dilute phase conveying system. The criteria that I used was that the air temperature must be low enough to prevent wax from ever reaching its "flux" point, the point at which the solid state starts changing to liquid. Conveying velocity should also be as low as possible.

If you need help on designing a pneumatic conveying system for waxes, please contact me.
