what are the pros and cons of impact idlers and impact tables?

What is used when? What is the influence of the impact load (droping height)? Is the sealing of the skirtboards within and behind the loading area easier or more efficient when impact tables are installed?

I am locking forward to read answers and comments from designers, field engineers and people that run and maintain conveyors.
