Vibration Spout DBGM
The Schäffer vibration spout is ideal for loosening and discharging bulk materials with moderate to poor flowing properties from silos and bins. Dependent on the size of the unit, the bulk material feed size can be anything between about 30 and 40 mm, the bulk density max. 2.0 at temperatures of 200°C (special designs also available for other parameters). The bulk materials being discharged must be technically dry and suitable for conveying (i.e. no lumps). The vibration spout serves to relieve the bunker pressure on the silo discharge.
Applications: all bulk materials which can be transported by means of vibration feeders, i.e., vibration feed channels or pipes, can also be activated by our activation units. And all those bulk materials which cannot be conveyed by vibration – e.g. polystyrene or wood shavings – can be loosened and activated by means of a modified version of the vibration spout.
The inexpensive standard unit is suitable for most applications in the case of new installations and is designed to fit into the 60° silo cone. The vibrating crushing cone with edge activation generates a turbo effect and stimulates the mass flow in the container.

Vibrahop®
The Vibrahop® is ideal for loosening and discharging bulk materials with moderate to poor flowing properties from silos and bins. Dependent on the size of the unit, the bulk material feed size can be anything between about 30 and 40 mm, the bulk density max. 2.0. The bulk materials being discharged must be technically dry and suitable for conveying (i.e. no lumps). The Vibrahop serves to relieve the bunker pressure on the silo discharge.
Applications: All bulk materials which can be transported by means of vibration feeders, i.e., vibration feed channels or pipes, can also be activated by the Vibrahop®. And all those bulk materials which cannot be conveyed by vibration – e.g. polystyrene or wood shavings – can either not be loosened or loosened only to a certain extent. The Vibrahop® is designed for trouble-free retrofitting. Its low height of only 150 mm is especially advantageous. Including vibrating crushing cone. Suitable for improving the flow behaviour of bulk materials in existing systems. In the case of completely new installations, we recommend the vibration spout.

Agglomerate Crushers
Agglomerate crushers are continuous-mode units designed to break up and crush agglomerated bulk materials; however, they are not suitable for compacted and rock-like hardenings.
The volume flow rate, the percentage of agglomerates and the maximum particle size dictate not only the size of the agglomerate crusher but also the end particle size. The crushers are available with 1 or 2 shafts in sizes 100x100 to 1000x1000.

Lift-locks / Double Oscillating Flaps
Our lift-locks and double oscillating flaps are discharge elements suitable for continuous operation (double oscillating flaps) or intermittent operation (lift-locks), and are used to discharge powdery or finely grained products from filters and cyclones, etc.
Their main application areas are power plants and rubbish incineration plants. They are designed for vertical material flow. The product being discharged must have good handling and flow properties and must be delivered to the units uniformly and already deglomerated. No discharge possible if the silo is in flooded feed condition.

Mini-valves
Dependent on their design, mini-valves are particularly suitable for metering powders and fine-grained materials with a maximum particle size of 2 mm. They are usually installed in pipelines or underneath small bins. Sizes DN 50 and DN 65 are supplied with clamping flanges. Sizes DN 80 / DN 100 are drilled to DIN specifications. The size 100 x 100 is supplied with a rectangular flange. Fitting position: The valves are designed for vertical material flow. Schäffer mini-valves have rounded chambers and because the rotor is precision-finished to the correct tolerances, afford maximum sealing integrity. Gap leakage caused by running clearance and wear, however, is possible. Special designs: Pressure-shock-proof to 10 bar or electropolished. Mini-valve DN 50 with clamping flange.

Vertical Valves
Vertical valves are continuous-mode discharge and metering units for powders and fine-grained bulk materials. They operate on the principle of a volumetric metering unit. The amount fed is directly dependent on the bulk density of the material upstream of the valve. Activation with scrapers ensures a high and uniform filling rate.

Rotary and Tangential Valves
Dependent on the design, rotary valves and tangential valves are suitable for the continuous metering of different types of dust, fine grains, chips or coarse grains. The bulk material must be dry with good conveying and flow properties. Because the rotor is precision-finished to the correct tolerances, Schäffer rotary valves have the maximum possible sealing integrity as well as end plates that are adjustable from the outside. Gap leakage caused by running clearance and wear, however, is possible. Special designs: max. 800°C, pressure-shock-proof and/or flame-propagation-proof.
Sizes:
rotary valve (square): 150 x 150 bis 1200 x 700
rotary valve (round): DN 150 bis DN 600
tangential valve (square): 200 x 200 bis 700 x 700

Blow-through Valves
Dependent on their design, blow-through valves are used to feed powders and fine-grained bulk materials into pneumatic feed lines. The bulk material must be dry with good conveying and flow properties. Because the rotor is precision-finished to the correct tolerances, our blow-through valves afford the maximum possible sealing integrity. Gap leakage caused by running clearance and wear, however, is possible.
Special designs possible:
to max. 800°C, pressure-shock-proof
and/or flame-propagation-proof.

Tight two and three way diverters
Routing bulk materials without residue from one inlet to two or three different outlets in a dust-tight manner can't be that difficult, surely?
That's the general consensus. But what about extremely fine powders in the µm range that flood through fine cracks? And what about the chemical products that must be protected against adulteration from residues of previous batches, and what happens when pressures are brought into play?
A flexible tube connected to the inlet pipe is positioned at the desired outlet 1, 2 or 3, the dust-tight connection is effected by means of an inflatable seal, and the path is clear for transporting the bulk material.
These new and inexpensive diverter valves are smooth and without dead zones in the area where the bulk material passes through, and have only very few wear parts that can be exchanged without having to remove the unit from the entire system. The valves are pressure-tight to + 0.4 bar.

Rotary and Swivel Distributors
Rotary and swivel distributors as well as distributor chutes are used to distribute a centrally fed material stream to several transfer points arranged in a circle or to the individual chambers of a multi-chamber silo. Example: A silo has six chambers that are arranged in a circle around the centre axis. A rotary distributor is installed on top of the silo in the centre. The individual stop positions can be steplessly adjusted by means of limit switches. The swivel element as shown in the figure is driven by means of a braked geared motor.

Two-way Distributors
Two-way distributors are used to distribute a flow of bulk material to three outlets. In each case, change-over flaps reliably seal off the outlet(s) not being used. The seals are concealed and located such that they are protected against product ingress.
The units are suitable for distributing both fine and coarse materials. However, with feed particle sizes above 5 mm, wear reasons make it necessary to avoid the change-over against the product stream wherever possible.
If the feed product is abrasive, wear plates at the sides of the housing and on both sides of the change-over flap are recommended. Although directional distributors are sealed to the outside and to the maximum possible
extent in the leadthrough, they are not pressure-tight.

Tubular Screw Feeders and Trough Screw Feeders, Cooling Screw Feeders, Screw Activators, Moisting Screw Feeders
Tubular screw feeders and trough screw feeders are used for high flow rates and also to bridge differences in height. They can be employed in just about any kind of production plant.
Cooling screw feeders not only convey the product but also cool it in the process.
Screw activators are used to discharge large amounts of bulk material with difficult or poor flow properties. Because several screw spirals are installed next to each other in a housing, the activation effect is excellent.
Moisting screw feeders are used for moisting of very fine, dusty and possibly polluting bulk material, e.g. for ash-handling.

Loading Equipment
Schäffer loading equipment comprises tried-and-tested units for loading silo trucks, open lorries, containers and railroad freight cars. The units are usually equipped with external ropes and have smooth leadthroughs with wear protection. The compact design includes winches with final position switches, pulleys, slack-line switches and deflection rollers with safety rope guides.
Because the entire loading assembly is supported by the top flange fitting, trouble-free installation is guaranteed. No additional consoles, brackets or deflection rollers necessary. Including connection for dedusting equipment. Design with integrated filter also available upon request. Loading unit DN900 for loading open lorries.

Special designs
What exactly does the term "special design" mean?
It means the develpment and manufacture of units to individual customer specifications, specifications that just cannot be covered by the standard product range - even by customising existing designs.
And how does Schäffer interpret this term ? Exactly this way!
We are so incidentally one of the few companies who are in a position to custom-make equipment to meet the special requirements of our customers.
Docking Equipment
Docking units are used to link stationary metering units with mobile bins and hoppers.
Example:
We were charged with development of a dust-tight link between a feed screw and a mobile container for a hazardous chemical product. The finished docking unit fully met the demand of a dust-tight connection.

Free-flow Flap Valve DN1000
The task was to develop a shutter for a pilot plant designed to manufacture homogeneous silicon (for silicon chips). The shutter had to seal the raw silicon against a hydrogen atmosphere of 3 bar.
The solution was a hydraulically actuated free-flow flap valve with a safety device that secures the flap in its closed position under all circumstances, even if the hydraulics fail.

Pneumatically Actuated Star Feeder
Pneumatically actuated star feeder, hermetic slide design:
The task was to feed cement raw meal at a temperature of 350°C into the pilot system of an Egyptian cement plant..
Great importance was placed on the air seal, the material seal and the uniformity of the metering process. Our solution constituted a star feeder formed by two hermetic slides made of wear-proof and temperature-resistant material, an intermediate bin and a fixed-cycle control unit.

Our special fort is the handling of those kinds of dry bulk materials encountered in all walks of daily life such as gravel, sand, cement, ash, lime, sugar, salt, and plastic granules, etc. Reputable companies both in Germany and abroad employ our units in all branches of industry, e.g. in the building materials, chemistry, and foodstuffs industries, as well as in power plant technology, environmental technology and medicine.
Our strength is not only in consultancy, i.e. working together with our customers to find the best solution for their individual requirements, but also in a constant quality control (we are certified acc. to ISO 9001:2000 and ATEX-directive 94/9/EC, Annex IV) the design and manufacture of the units we deliver. We offer our customers a complete and modular system for the solution of just about every bulk material handling problem, in particular when it comes to activation, sealing, metering and conveying. And maximum flexibility and high quality standards are a matter of course at Schaeffer.
Company History
On the 1st May 1970, Erich Schäffer formed "Erich Schäffer VDI" as a sales and engineering company for system units and system subassemblies. After more than 10 years of successful operations, he changed the name to "Schäffer Verfahrenstechnik" on 1st January 1981 and from then on, manufactured units on his own account and of his own design. In the spring of 1997, the company was turned into a limited liability company, during the course of which Erich's son Stefan Schäffer became a member of the company management. On the 1st January 2000, Stefan Schäffer took over the controlling interest and thus the responsibility in the limited liability company.
On the 4th October 2000, the new installation at "Am Unteranger 3" in Thierhaupten went operable.
It is here that our outstanding team of specialists designs, engineers and produces our well-known and proven units for the field of bulk materials process technology. And we will certainly do our level best to make sure that in the future, too, our units for activation, sealing, metering and conveying meet your requirements and that you can rely on the performance and quality of our products.
And that's a promise!
