Martin Engineering Expands Use of EDEM™ Software in Design of Solids Handling Equipment

Lebanon, NH, USA and Edinburgh, Scotland (February 20, 2008) – DEM Solutions, the world leader in DEM (Discrete Element Method) software for simulation and analysis of particulates solids handling and processing operations, is pleased to announce that Martin Engineering (Neponset, Illinois), a leading global supplier of solids handling systems, continues to expand its use of EDEM software in design optimization and development of their innovative engineered products, which include all aspects of conveyor systems and transfer points for multiple industrial sectors.

EDEM provides a means of testing the performance of design prototypes to determine the best system configuration to match the solid materials and operating conditions. The software is fully integrated with CAD design software, enabling direct use of 3D solid models of equipment with easy-to-use tools for definition of material properties and movement of components such as conveyor belts and rollers. With the shortest simulation times of any DEM software on the market, and extensive data visualization and analysis tools, EDEM enables engineers to quickly iterate towards the optimum design at the same time gaining insights into the interactions between the physical characteristics of the bulk solids (size and shape distribution, flow properties, etc.) and the equipment design and operating parameters.

Martin Engineering researches, develops, and tests structures and products that improve the operation of conveyor systems and transfer points, including engineered chutes, belt accessories, air cannons, vibration equipment, and other flow aid devices, dust and spillage control equipment, and other leading-edge conveyor technologies and parts. Martin Engineering was one of the first solids handling systems suppliers to recognize the benefits of EDEM and now routinely uses the software in design and configuration of their conveyors, chutes and transfer points.

James Gassen, Martin Engineering’s Vice President of Product Development, said:

“We find EDEM software allows us to easily and accurately model our conceptual designs, to produce outstanding engineered solutions for our customers. EDEM software adds another exciting dimension to the capabilities of our industry-leading Center for Bulk Material Handling Innovation.”

Dr John Favier, CEO of DEM Solutions stated:

“We are very pleased Martin Engineering is continuing to invest in our EDEM software and are seeing a good return from its application in design of their leading solids handling solutions. Our objective is to provide suppliers and users of solids handling equipment with software which helps them design and operate their equipment more efficiently, at lower cost, with increased productivity.”

About DEM Solutions

DEM Solutions is the leader in discrete element modeling software solutions for particulates solids handling and processing applications enabling companies to improve their products and processes by simulating and analyzing operations at the particle scale. Its EDEM software is the world’s most advanced DEM simulation package. Combining the fastest commercially available DEM solver with an easy-to-use interface incorporating 3D CAD model import and an extensive set of model set-up and data visualization and analysis tools, EDEM is used in the design and analysis of particulate handling, processing, and manufacturing operations in almost every industry sector and engineering discipline. EDEM provides engineers with a means of substantially reducing the number of physical prototypes and tests required, trouble-shooting difficult particulate processes and improving understanding of system fundamentals leading to better product and process design and innovation.

DEM Solutions is highly experienced in industrial application of DEM to a wide range of industries and works closely with clients worldwide providing consulting, software applications and training services. Its corporate headquarters are located in Edinburgh, Scotland in the UK with a US office in Lebanon, New Hampshire and sales offices and distributor representation worldwide.

It really would be nice if I could find at least an order of cost for this software on their web site.
