PEBCO® Clamshell Gates

PEBCO® Inc. was selected by Roberts & Schaefer Company as equipment supplier for thirty-two (32) specialized clamshell gates at a Texas limestone quarry. Eight (8) of these gates serve as a shut-off for loading crushed limestone into open trucks. Two (2) units function as a shut-off beneath bins and to regulate product flow to belt conveyors. The other twenty-two (22) clamshells are located beneath a reclaim pile and control product flow to the belt conveyor.

The crushed limestone weighs approximately 95 pcf and flow rates vary from 1,500 to 6,000 tons per hour. Sizes range from 24” square up to 36” square openings. The clamshell gate features side mounted cylinders for pneumatic operation. Construction is of carbon steel with abrasion resistant steel liners on the blade and product flow surfaces. Special drip pans were purchased for the clamshells loading the open trucks.

PEBCO®'s Clamshell gates have a proven rugged design and offers limited entrapment areas for material to hang up. Clamshell gates are typically used for cutting off or regulating material flow when loading hopper, bins, conveyors and other containers. The dual cylinder version optimizes structural integrity and closing force. Optional seals can be purchased for fine or wet materials.
