Well- do you realise the upcoming pollution control laws for 2009 to reduce nasty polllutants belched out in a plant that does not have scrubbers with additional combustors etc. is going to have a lot of impact?

Besides that issue what voltage do you plan on transmitting 4160, 13,800, 34,500 3 phase AC? any and all will have to be boosted to 115,000 volts if you intend to sell power as the economies of scale rule.

Even with low sulphur bituminous from wyoming which is heavily discounted in price to sell it will have to be scrubbed and purified there is no way around that ,and you will burn twice the soft coal volume and then the ash issue enters into the picture simply due to tvolume.

To develop a small system you will need coal stokers but full pollution controls will still be needed and a small stoker will be hard pressed to give you steam power for three legs of 34,500 volts AC 60 cycle power unless you use step up transformers. ■
