Nobody will doubt the importance of fire prevention. Most national regulations state that only persons well experienced in fire prevention design are qualified to carry out the work. In 2001 somebody from Manchester tried to charge my client £21,000 to review fire system drawings. I rebuffed the approach quoting the Malaysian Fire Departments own mandatory insistence on checking the work themselves. Fortunately I was supported by the top management and the issue was duly left to the experts....in the Fire Service. ■
