Conveying cement + coal with same belt

Posted in: , on 16. Mar. 2007 - 11:11

Dear members of this forum,

For a cement export plant, we are considering a belt conveyor that conveys cement from plant to ship and, on the return side, conveys coal from ship to plant.

Does anybody know examples of (cement) plants/ports were this type of configuration is used? foto's, articles or adresses so we can pay a visit.

Also we are looking for examples of shiploaders that can do cement (and preferably also clinker) at 1200 tph.

thank you,

Regards,

Henk-Jan Schilperoort

Bi-directional transport has been practiced before in cement operations.,

We have done this in iron ore with 4000 t/h on carry strand and 1000 t/h on return.

Others in the forum have noted similar installations in other materials.

I believe Koch (now defunct), has made such installations in limestone and/or clinker in one direction and coal on return using pipe conveyors.

You must be careful on cleaning or controlling contamination between products.

What is the distance you are dealing with from a to b ?

With pipe conveyors, isn't the belt rotated at the return side so the belt is always folded same way (and hence problems with contamination)?

We are considering conventional troughed belt conveyor and are interested in real life examples (if any) of such installation.

The distance we're dealing with is approx. 1 km.

dear Mr Schilperoort,

Why not making a preliminary desgn and evaluate the result of that design for the 2 materials.

There should be enough experience available on coal belts.

On cement, it would be somewhat more difficult because of dust swirling up from the belt and the transport on steep angles, because of the risk of fluidizing by the roller vibration.

( The fluidizing property of the cement will be the main concern)

One belt for two products allows no 2 commodities at the same time.

Coal can be transported in the open (cement and clinker cannot)

May be a combination of a single direction belt for coal or a bi directional belt for coal and clinker and a pneumatic conveying system for the cement is also feasible

success

Teus,

Thanks for your reply.

The configuration was suggested by the client, hence my interest in real life performance of bi-way conveying.

As I understand it, conveying 2 commodities at the same time on the same conveyor is not possible?

a capsule pipeline will allow you to move two or more commodities at the same time.
