COPENHAGEN, Denmark, March 2007 - FLSmidth Automation has released a new version of its process control system, ECS/ControlCenter 7.7. This release includes enhanced support for local panels and sub control systems, satisfying the growing need for more advanced features on smaller systems. Using the same control system software for the Central Control Room (CCR) and the plant floor provides a common operator interface, and enables a seamless merge of local controls into the main control system for centralized handling of equipment.

To further support the use of the ECS/ControlCenter platform on smaller systems, FLSmidth Automation has extended the existing collection of built-in high performance I/O drivers for the four major PLC brands, ABB, Modicon, Rockwell and Siemens, with smaller PLC types commonly used in local panels and sub control systems. "ECS/ControlCenter has a long history of platform independence, and now we are also able to provide a common operator interface on local panels across the plant, independent of the PLC" says Jan Schilling, Product Manager.

Another novel feature of this release is simplified support for deployment and update procedures, making system maintenance easier and more reliable. Improved redundancy support for clients connected to dual servers enables automatic fail-over, ensuring that operator stations always remain connected to an available server.

ECS/ControlCenter 7.7 runs on Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, XP and Vista. Full support for Vista is expected during 2007, once the newly released operating system has passed internal tests. This release is the first step towards Microsoft's next generation Windows operating system, code-named Longhorn, with applications based on the latest .NET technology.
