That's 760 deg C, which I reckon is "cherry red".
Maybe you should look at a high temperature cast iron. Make the cast flighting to slip over a water cooled shaft. ■

What are your TPH? If the screw is fairly large and the TPH small, you may not put much heat into the screw. This is common on some ash handling jobs.
Otherwise water cooled screws and troughs are common. ■

The TPH is only about 1.8. The auger itself is small and the trough is actually refractory lined. I would like to steer away from the water cooled screw. ■
Auger material question
Hi,
I was wondering what type of materials are typically used in high temperatue and abrasive environments (sand at 1400F)? The speed is low and the required life is only 500hrs of operation. Would a SS316 do the job?
Thanks,
The Captain ■
